What if my camera is not working?

​​To get yourself verified, you need to allow access to your webcam, when prompted by your browser. If you've already done this but your webcam is still not working, you might need to check your operating system's camera settings. See the specific instructions below: 

Browsers

Chrome (computer)

When you initially go through the verification procedure, your browser will prompt you to provide access to your camera. Please select Allow.

To re-enable a blocked camera in Chrome, you should follow these steps:

1. Click the camera icon in the address bar.

2. Select 'Always allow ... to access your camera' (1) and then click 'Done' (2).

3. Refresh the browser page.

If this doesn't help, try checking the Camera settings of your operating system and make sure that your camera is not being used by another application.

 

Firefox (computer)

When you initially go through the verification procedure, your browser will prompt you to provide access to your camera. Please select Allow.

2. In the window that opens, click the cross icon next to 'Blocked'.

3. Refresh the page.

If this doesn't help, try checking the Camera settings of your operating system and make sure that your camera is not being used by another application. 

Opera (computer)

When you initially go through the verification procedure, your browser will prompt you to provide access to your camera. Please select Allow.

To re-enable a blocked camera in Opera, you should follow these steps:

1. Click the camera icon in the address bar.

2. In the window that opens, click the 'Clear this setting and reload' button. 

If this doesn't help, try checking the Camera settings of your operating system and make sure that your camera is not being used by another application. 

Safari (computer)

When Safari asks you to allow access to your device's camera, please allow it.

To re-enable a blocked camera in Safari, you should follow these steps:

1. Go to Safari and then select Preferences.

2. Click Websites

3. Go to the Camera tab in the side menu and allow your service provider to access the camera.

4. Close the Preferences window and refresh the browser page.

If this doesn't help, try checking the Camera settings of your operating system and make sure that your camera is not being used by another application.

Chrome (mobile/tablet)

When you initially go through the verification procedure, you will be prompted to provide access to your camera. Please select Allow.

To re-enable a blocked camera, you should follow these steps:

1. In the browser, tap the lock icon located in the address bar.

2. Tap Site settings.

3. Tap Clear & reset and confirm your action in the window that opens.

4. Refresh the page that opens and tap Allow.

If this doesn't help, make sure that the Chrome app has access to your camera. If you are unsure whether this is the case, you should follow these steps:

1. On your device, open Settings.
2. Tap Apps > Chrome > Permissions.
3. Make sure that the Camera permission is switched on.

4. Return to the browser and refresh the page.

Firefox (mobile/tablet)

When you initially go through the verification procedure, you will be prompted to share your camera with your service provider. Firstly select the Front-facing camera and then tap Share.

To re-enable a blocked camera, simply refresh the page and then, when prompted, select the Front-facing camera and tap Share.

If this doesn't help, make sure that the Firefox app has access to your camera. If you are unsure whether this is the case, you should follow these steps:

1. On your device, open Settings.
2. Tap Apps > Firefox > Permissions.
3. Make sure that the Camera permission is switched on.

4. Return to your browser and refresh the page.

 

Opera (mobile/tablet)

When you initially go through the verification procedure, you will be prompted to allow media capture. Please select Allow.

Then select Front camera.

2. Tap Site Settings.

3. Tap Reset permissions.

4. Go back to the browser page and refresh it. 

If this doesn't help, make sure that the Opera app has access to your camera. If you are unsure whether this is the case, you should follow these steps:

1. On your device, open Settings.
2. Tap Apps > Opera > Permissions.
3. Make sure that the Camera permission is switched on.

5. Return to the browser and refresh the page. 

Safari (mobile/tablet)

To get verified on iOS devices, you need to allow access to your webcam. Please be sure to tap Allow when prompted.

To re-enable a blocked camera, you should follow these steps:

1. Refresh the Safari tab.
2. When the alert appears, requesting camera access, tap Allow.

If this doesn't help, you should check that camera access is enabled:

1. Open Settings and tap Safari.
2. Scroll down to the Settings for websites and then tap Camera.
3. Make sure that Ask or Allow is checked for your service provider.
4. Refresh the Safari tab and tap Allow if prompted.

 

Operating systems

Windows

If you are having camera issues on a Windows computer, you might need to check your Windows settings. You should follow these steps:

1. In the lower left-hand corner of your screen, open Start menu and go to Settings.

2. Click on the Privacy tab.
3. In the menu on the left-hand side, locate the Camera tab and click on it.
4. Make sure that Camera access for this device is on (1).
5. Make sure that Allow apps to access your camera (2) is on.

6. Return to your browser and refresh the page.

macOS

To re-enable a blocked camera on macOS, you should follow these steps:
1. In the Apple menu, go to System Preferences, click Security & Privacy, then click Privacy.
2. Click Camera.
3. Make sure the box, that is located next to the browser you are using, is checked.

4. Return to your browser and refresh the page.

 

Another possible issue

To get your camera working during the verification procedure, you might also need to make sure that your camera is not currently being used by another application, such as Zoom, Skype or FaceTime. If your camera is being used by another application, you must first close that application, and then refresh the browser page in which you are attempting to pass the verification procedure.
