🚨 Urgent Alert: PayPal Cryptocurrency Invoice Scams
Be aware of a widespread phishing scam involving fake PayPal emails and invoices. These scams are designed to make you panic and act without thinking.
🚩 How the Scam Works
The Setup: You receive an email or an official-looking invoice that appears to come from PayPal.
The Claim: It states that you have successfully purchased cryptocurrency (e.g., "You sent 0.05 BTC" or "Payment of $500 USD for Bitcoin confirmed").
The Trap: The email includes a fake customer support phone number and urges you to "call immediately" if you did not authorize the transaction.
The Goal: If you call the number, scammers will try to trick you into giving them remote access to your computer or sending them funds to "reverse" the charge.
🛡️ What To Do If You Receive This Email
If you receive a suspicious email like this, please follow these steps:
DO NOT call the phone number listed in the email.
DO NOT click on any links or download attachments.
CHECK your official PayPal account by logging in directly through your browser (not the email link). You will likely see that no such transaction exists.
REPORT the email by forwarding it to phishing@paypal.com.
⚠️ Crucial Reminder
Don't be tricked. Scammers use fear to make you purchase Bitcoin or send money to "safe wallets."
Remember that all cryptocurrency transactions are irreversible. Once you send funds to a scammer, there is no way to retrieve them, and the recipient's identity is almost impossible to trace.
