To comply with the European Union’s Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) regulations and the Travel Rule, Paybis is required to verify ownership of unhosted (non-custodial) wallets for certain transactions.
This process ensures that you are the true owner or have full control over the external wallet address that receives or sends the crypto.
While this sounds technical, the verification is highly automated and takes only a few minutes. Below is a step-by-step guide on how to complete this verification seamlessly directly within your transaction.
The Verification Flow
When a transaction requires unhosted wallet verification, you will see a window:
"Unhosted wallet verification is required"
"Due to regulations, you'll need to verify your crypto wallet.
Click "Verify now" to launch the verification page.
Once the verification page loads, you will see your Wallet Address, the transaction Asset (e.g., BTC), and three options to complete your verification:
Connect wallet (Recommended & Automated)
Sign via external wallet (Cryptographic proof)
Self-declaration (Manual verification fallback)
Option 1: Connect Wallet (Fastest)
This is the most straightforward method. If you use a popular software or hardware wallet, you can link it directly to prove ownership.
Click on Connect wallet.
A list of supported wallet providers will appear (such as OKX Wallet, Trezor Suite, Arculus Wallet, Ctrl Wallet, etc.).
Select your wallet provider from the list.
Follow the prompt in your wallet extension or app to authorise the connection.
Once connected, ownership is instantly confirmed!
Option 2: Sign via External Wallet
If you prefer not to connect your wallet directly, or if your wallet doesn't support direct connection but allows message signing, you can provide cryptographic proof.
Click on Sign via external wallet.
Our system will generate a unique text string in the "Message" field (e.g.,
Signature-message-xxxx...). Click Copy message.Open your own wallet application and navigate to its "Sign Message" tool.
Paste the copied message and sign it using the private key linked to your transaction wallet address.
Your wallet will generate a long, unique cryptographic code (the Signature). Copy this code.
Return to the Paybis page and paste this code into the Signature Proof field, then submit.
Option 3: Self-Declaration
If your wallet provider is not listed in the "Connect Wallet" menu, and you are unable to perform a cryptographic signature, you can use the Self-declaration route.
Click on Self-declaration.
Review the declaration details on the screen.
Manually confirm and declare that you own and control the specified destination wallet address.
Submit the declaration.
